Car Design Master in Italy

Never thought about teletransportation to move around? Most of the world-wide population is living in growing urban areas, in which the problems of mobility have reached proportions that were simply unconceivable a few years ago: at the same time, people spending their time in the traffic jam desire more than any other thing a sport car. Car Design is unanimously considered a field of product Design with different rules and methods, a profession of its own. The system of constraints around the world of transportation and of cars is especially important: market, technology, communication, ergonomics, safety, style, etc. Designing in this scenario is certainly difficult: creative solutions are not sufficient, the level of competitiveness is very high and employment limited. Still, this is the challenge most of the creatives entering the world of Design aspire to: in some years those who have worked in car Design will consider the other fields as a second choice. Why? The answer is banal. If cars have been the objects of desire for the last 100 years, those who create them enjoy part of the same respect. To Design cars means to be able to influence the perception of beauty, more than in any other industrial sector. The ability to make a shape correspond to an identifiable and marketable style is what companies asked to car designers in the 90's.

Philosophy of our Master in Car Design and Mobility

The scenario is changing: the problems related to mobility - traffic, pollution, safety... - can't be considered outside the world of car Design. The system of individual transportation is more and more under accusation and collective transportation inadequate. The perception of the car as object of desire representing a lifestyle, a concentration of performance and beauty is naive: it is important to know this approach, since the market is still relying on it, but this can't be considered to be the direction for the future. The other fields of transportation (collective vehicles, entertainment vehicles, sailing...) have reached a mature phase as far as Design is concerned and they offer interesting development margins. From the technological point of view as well, the future has some novelties: ecological engines, new materials, safety and interaction technologies will change the scenario the designer operates in. Transportation and car Design, the way Domus Academy intends it, is a tool to Design a better relationship (sustainable, safe, interactive) between mobility and territory.
