INTERVIEW WITH MARCO BONETTO
1) Mr. Bonetto, you are a very well known car and product designer and you have been working for leading companies. Which is the most rewarding project you faced during your career?
Every project is very gratifying in terms of personal satisfaction. I can’t think of any project I love in particular, because passion and love are feelings that come during the development of a new product, then when it is put on the market there is a sort of detachment, since I am totally committed on other projects. I think the most gratifying moment is when you understand the project is “good” or better when the client chooses one of the proposals.
2) This is your first year of direction of Domus Academy's Master in Car Design. Tell us a little bit about this experience in terms of education approach. How does the structure of the Master work?
My long teaching experience led me to have an approach where I put my experience at disposal; I guide the students in a sort of simulation of a real car design project. This experience is done in collaboration with a car company; this year for example Audi asked to work on a project for a new SUV, and together with my DA students we are following and developing the main phases to realize a concept of exterior and interior of this future vehicle. For the students it is a new and exciting experience.
3) We saw this important collaboration with AUDI. How is the company involved in the program?
As I said before, Audi has given us a theme of project they are also interested in. Some managers of the Ingolstad headquarters gave us a precise brief including the constraints regarding the architecture of the vehicle. We periodically organize a moment of work in progress with Audi, where the students present, discuss and receive feedback about their project from the company .
